Court-Ordered Community Service

UPDATE May 1, 2023:  Effective July 1, 2023, Second Harvest Heartland will no longer offer verification of court-ordered community service hours. Any individual who applies by 4:30 pm on Friday, June 30, 2023, will be considered for approval. All individuals who have been approved prior to July 1 will be able to continue to complete their required service hours with Second Harvest Heartland.

All court-ordered community service volunteers must complete an application and have approval prior to their first shift. To apply, complete the application below. Once you submit your application, we will review and contact you with our decision. Submission of the application does not guarantee approval.

Individuals who receive a court order to perform community service will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Volunteers must be age 18 or older to be considered for court-ordered community service hours. Volunteers will complete their service hours through the food repacking shifts in the Volunteer Center.

A conviction for a criminal offense will not automatically disqualify an applicant. The applicant's offense will be evaluated based on the factors listed below:

  • An applicant who provides false, incomplete, or misleading information regarding their conviction will be automatically eliminated from further consideration or continuation if already approved
  • The severity of the conviction
  • The risk posed to Second Harvest Heartland, its volunteers and employees

Approved volunteers will be expected to follow all the expectations of our volunteers which are noted in our waiver.
