Volunteer: Hunger Action Month Food Packing Event

Event Description: 

As a part of Hunger Action Month, Second Harvest Heartland in partnership with The Sanneh Foundation and Keystone Community Services, is hosting a food distribution and community resource fair outside Allianz Field in St. Paul. Community members can explore resources from community organizations plus take-home shelf stable food and fresh local produce.  

Hunger Action Month is a national campaign every September sparking action and awareness around hunger in our communities. This event is a chance to distribute food while connecting neighbors with other important resources that can support stability and food security.   

We are looking for volunteers to help us pack approximately 500 boxes with 15 food items during the shift. These boxes will join 1,000 pre-packed boxes for a total of 1,500 boxes that will be immediately distributed at the same location.

What you'll do: 

Pack boxes with shelf-stable grocery items  OPTIONAL: assist with takedown of the packing line   

What you’re committing to:  

Being able to walk, bend, and twist  Being able to lift at least 25-30 lbs  Being able to stand for at least 3 hours on a paved service  Being flexible as needs change and vary throughout the shift  Being punctual and dependable  

Dress Code: 

Closed-toe shoes  Jewelry is not permitted, we ask that you remove all watches, fit bits, earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces and other jewelry items  Wear comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty  Dress for the weather, this event is outdoors so please plan accordingly

As a Mobile Bidding & Silent Auction Assistant at Dish, Second Harvest Heartland’s premier gala, you’ll play a key role in helping guests navigate the mobile bidding platform and explore auction items. Your tech-savvy support and friendly guidance will ensure attendees can easily participate in one of the evening’s most important fundraising activities.

What You'll Do:  

Assist guests with accessing and navigating the mobile bidding platform on their phones  Support guests in placing bids and exploring auction items  Answer questions and troubleshoot basic tech issues with patience and clarity

You may also be asked to take photos using guests’ phones—adding a personal touch to their experience.
