Open Opportunities From: Second Harvest Heartland Volunteer Central

Volunteer: Pro Bono Project: Agency Volunteer Support COP Decision Tree Developer

Project Overview:

As an initiative of our Make Hunger History goal, the volunteer engagement team is committed to providing support to our agency partners and their volunteer needs to sustainably reach the communities most impacted by hunger and improve network efficiency through new processes, structure and technologies.

This type of support is new for many food banks across the Feeding America network of food banks, and multiple circular discussions have occurred with no movement. To create momentum and engagement with actionable solutions, Second Harvest Heartland is spearheading a project to create a new community of practice in the Feeding America network of food banks.

Six people from food banks across the country have defined and designed the COP to launch in September. This group and the COP will continue to grow the COP’s conversations, information and resources to sustain the COP and work.

The group has determined the need for a decision tree to aid food banks in developing the scope of their agency support and understanding the steps of what's next and any further decisions that are needed.

Skills needed & previous experience desired:

In Phase I, we seek an individual who can provide consultation on what is needed to build the decision tree including speaking with the group on content, paths and connections to resources. The volunteer will then build out the decision tree document. Ideally, we would like to see an interactive decision tree to aid food banks in determining their path for success. This could be a Phase II project with this volunteer or through engaging another volunteer.

Deliverables:

·       Consult with Second Harvest Heartland to determine estimated time commitment, required tools and other factors to take into consideration

·       Consult with the COP work group to determine decision tree content and path

·       Build out the decision tree and provide communication and further consultation to get to the final design.

·       Phase II: take the final design and create an interactive tool. This phase will include conversations on the platform recommendations.

Estimated time commitment: TBD; volunteer to consult

Project start date: August or September

Number of volunteers needed:Open to individual or a small group

Work site: Remote

Second Harvest Heartland conducts background checks on all volunteers in this position. We reserve the right to decline a volunteer, or dismiss a current volunteer, based on the results of the background check.
