Volunteer: Thank You Caller

What You’ll Do 

Gratitude is a powerful connector, and as a Thank You Caller, you'll be a key volunteer ambassador helping us build lasting relationships with the donors who support our mission. Your voice will personally thank donors for their generosity, reinforcing their shared commitment to ending hunger together. You will make weekly thank-you calls to donors, accurately update call records, share donor feedback with staff, and answer basic questions while representing Second Harvest Heartland with warmth and professionalism. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys speaking on the phone, values thoughtful communication, and wants to gain insight into non-profit development operations. 

What You Need 

Comfortable speaking on the phone and leaving professional voicemail messages.  Patient and empathetic when interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.  Dependable and committed to providing high-quality service.  Willingness to utilize a Second Harvest Heartland account set up by our IT team to access necessary materials and communicate via email and chat     Reliable internet and computer access (tablets will not work)  Computers and internet available for volunteers who would like to come onsite  Teams is used for phone calling – this can be done via your computer or through an app on your phone 

Physical Demands & Environment 

Role can be virtual (done from home) after initial onboarding and training is complete OR Role can be onsite at our Brooklyn Park location   Minimal physical demands; require sitting or standing comfortably while making calls and using a computer.  Onsite: the noise level is typical for an administrative/call environment.   

Schedule and Flexibility 

Frequency: Weekly  Duration: 2–3 hours per week  Commitment: Minimum of 3 months  Location: Virtual from your own home OR onsite at our Brooklyn Park Facility (7101 Winnetka Ave N, Brooklyn Park, MN 55428) 

Training and Support 

Onboarding and training will take place onsite at our Brooklyn Park Location  You’ll be trained and supported by our Annual Giving Team. 

Communication 

Most communication with donors will take place via phone. Clear, kind, and respectful communication is essential.  You’ll communicate with staff via email and check-ins.  Open lines of communication for questions and feedback.

What You’ll Do 

For many neighbors facing chronic health conditions or aging challenges, the choice between housing, medication, or healthy food is a harsh reality. Our innovative FOODRx and Senior Hunger (CSFP) programs ensure this choice doesn't have to be made by delivering medically tailored or nutritious food boxes directly to those impacted by hunger.  

You will pick up 5–10 boxes from Second Harvest Heartland, use a predetermined route to deliver them, and follow specific instructions (like calling the client upon arrival). This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys driving, following specific instructions, and providing direct, essential support to seniors and those with chronic health conditions. 

What You Need 

Use your own reliable vehicle (hatchback or larger recommended for box capacity).  Valid driver's license and car insurance.  Willingness to pick up and complete all deliveries on the same day. 

Physical Demands & Environment 

Requires consistent lifting and carrying 30+ pound boxes.  Requires getting in and out of a vehicle repeatedly.  The work environment involves warehouse/loading area and residential delivery sites. 

Schedule and Flexibility 

Frequency: Monthly or Bi-weekly  Duration: Minimum of 12 months  Commitment: Flexible on day and time, would ideally delivering on the same day each month.Location: Volunteers will come onsite to our Brooklyn Park Location (7101 Winnetka Ave N) for orientation & all future pick-ups

Training and Support 

We’ll provide onboarding to help you feel confident in your role.  You’ll be trained and supported by our Neighbor Services Operations Staff
