Receiving Text Messages
Text messaging is available to notify you of important volunteer news, whether it's regarding shift cancellations due to bad weather or a last minute need to fill in a shift. You must first sign up for text messaging in order to receive text messages.
Signing Up for Text Messaging
To sign up for text messaging, you'll need to have mobile number validated using an unique mobile code. You can access this code from your volunteer profile.
To get your number validated for text messaging:
1. From your profile drop-down, go to Edit Profile.
2. Under the Basic Information heading, scroll to the Mobile field.
If you already have a mobile phone number entered, proceed to step 4. If you don't have a mobile phone number entered, continue on to step 3.
3. Once you enter in your mobile phone number, click Update Basic Information. Now that there is data in the Mobile field, Get Mobile Code button is available.
4. Click Send Mobile Code. Two things happen at this point: (1) A validation code is sent to your phone, and (2) a new Mobile Code field appears, along with a Validate Code button.
5. Type the mobile code that was sent to your phone into the Mobile Code field, and press Validate Code. Once the code is successfully validated, you'll see a confirmation message.
Your mobile number is now set to receive text messages!
Opting Out of Text Messaging
Once your number has been validated for text messaging, we will be able to send you messages through Volunteer Central. If you later decide to opt out, you can do so from your volunteer profile.
To opt out of text messaging:
- From your profile dropdown, go to Edit Profile.
- Under the Basic Information heading, scroll to the Mobile field, where you'll see an Opt Out of Text Messages button.
3. Click this button to opt out. The, click Update Basic Information to save changes.
Once you have opted out, the button above will be replace by a Send Mobile Code button. To sign up for text messaging again later, start from the beginning and follow the instructions again.
