Youth Volunteering
Second Harvest Heartland welcomes youth to volunteer for our Sorting and Packing Shifts. We encourage chaperones to engage their youth and assist Second Harvest Heartland to create the safest and best experience for the volunteers and our staff.
SHH is a working warehouse, and our volunteers and staff's safety are our number one priority.
What to know
- Youth ages 8 and older can volunteer the Sorting and Packing Shifts at Brooklyn Park.
- Each youth volunteer must have their parent or legal guardian complete and sign the youth waiver, in order to volunteer at Second Harvest Heartland. If they do not have a completed waiver they cannot volunteer.
- Adult Chaperones must always be present with their Youth volunteers during their shift. (Please find the Chaperone Guidelines here.)
- Youth who are 16 and older and coming to volunteer as an individual do not require a chaperone.
- If you are self-reserving a group with youth, please be sure to add (YOUTH) to your group name.
Requirements by Age Group
Creating a Youth volunteering account (Ages 13+ Only)
- Youth under the age of 13 cannot create their own account. Please contact volunteer@2harvest.org for the youth waiver.
- Accounts for youth ages 13 and up will need to have their own email and will need to provide a parent or guardian’s email address in order to receive the required youth waiver. This waiver will be sent to the parent/guardian email address for completion.
- Once the waiver is complete, you can register for a Sorting and Packing shift based on availability.
- Click here to self register your youth group.
If you need assistance reserving a group, please compete the Youth Group Reservation Request Form. Reservations are made on a first come, first serve basis and completion of this form does not guarantee a shift reservation.
