What comes to mind when you hear the word 'advocacy?' For some, it might be images of backroom deals, lobbyists, and politicians. In reality, advocacy is an effective way to build support for an issue you care about. And while advocacy can seem scary if you've never done it before, the truth is that anyone can do it-including you!
As part of the Make Hunger History initiative to cut hunger in half for all Minnesotans by 2030, Second Harvest Heartland is investing more than ever in state-level advocacy to advance policies to both reduce and prevent hunger in Minnesota.
As a volunteer, you've generously given your time-and possibly some of your hard-earned money-to help ensure no one in our state goes hungry today. Now we're asking you to lend your voice to this cause by becoming an advocate for policies to make sure fewer people go hungry tomorrow. When you share why ending hunger is important to you and ask for their support, legislators listen. Harnessing the collective power of that individual storytelling is how we will achieve policy wins that will help our neighbors across the state.
If you're ready to join us as a volunteer advocate, the easiest way to do so is to sign our petition in support of Make Hunger History, after which you will get updates on our progress and action alerts when your voice is needed most. We make it easy for everyone by providing the tools, suggested language, and all the information you need to effectively communicate with your elected representatives with just a few clicks of a mouse.
