Second Harvest Heartland is seeking a Volunteer Photographer to take photos on an on-call basis at volunteer or community events, at our facilities, and more. This is a flexible position and wonderful way to share your photography skills to bring our work to life!   

What You'll Do in this Role:

  • Photograph events on an on-call basis – daytime help needed 

  • Communicate with Second Harvest Heartland External Relations liaison - a shot list will be provided for each event 

  • Edit photos using software of choice, following the photography guidelines in the Second Harvest Heartland Brand Book 

  • Assist subjects in filling out appearance release forms  

  • Tag photos to add descriptive metadata that helps the team search for and use photos 

  • Upload images adhering to the structured filing system 
  • Upload scanned appearance release forms or provide hard copies via mail or in-person 

  • Sort and tag existing photo and video assets as time allows, if interested 

 
Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to take professional-quality photos 

  • Available on an on-call basis - daytime help needed 
  • Provide your own camera, memory card, and lenses – lighting can be provided, if needed 

  • Provide your own photo editing software 

  • Provide your own internet connection to use our cloud-based filing system 

  • Ability to edit photos using Second Harvest Heartland photo guidelines and style 

  • Transportation to visit Brooklyn Park or community locations, as needed 
  • Friendly, helpful, “customer service” demeanor 

  • Highly aware and respectful of confidentiality 

  • Reliable and punctual 

  • Ability to meet Second Harvest Heartland guidelines for background check: we will be conducting criminal background checks for all volunteers in this position. We reserve the right to decline working with a volunteer, or dismiss a current volunteer, based on the results of the background check. 

Time Requirements and Schedule: 

  • Total time requirement: Six-month minimum commitment 
  • Project start and completion date: Flexible 
  • Schedule: This is a flexible-schedule opportunity with an anticipated one event per month. Photo tagging and sorting can be done as time allows, about two hours a week preferred (if interested) 
  • Work site: Community locations and Second Harvest Heartland Brooklyn Park facility. Photo tagging and sorting can be done remotely (if interested)
